NPTI Colorado provides an intensive six month, hands-on school program including over 1,000 hours of practical, hands-on experience, classroom instruction, and special homework projects that include fitness center visits, muscle practicals, case studies, CPR / AED certification, group class instruction, an intensive diet & nutrition analysis, and an extensive "The Business of Personal Training" project.
Classes are held days and evenings (Mon - Thurs) ... and if you like, you can switch between days and evenings to accommodate your busy schedule! Day / Evening classes enroll four times annually.
We also offer a 9-month weekend program which covers the same curriculum in nine months (Saturdays and most Sundays, excluding holidays). Weekend classes enroll three times annually.
We have been an approved vocational school in Colorado since 2001, for both our Lakewood and Colorado Springs locations, as recognized by the State of Colorado, Division of Private Occupational Schools, and Department of Higher Education. NPTI Colorado is also approved for VA Education Benefits by the Colorado State Approving Agency (CSAA).
The school includes classroom training, fitness center training, field trips, and optional internship programs. Optional internship programs include other fitness centers (e.g. The World Gym, The Point Athletic Club, Fitness Together) and a paid internship with the University of Denver.
Students of the school are tested monthly. A mid-term and final examination include both practical and written test components.
Client Evaluation and Exercise Program Design
At NPTI Colorado, you will learn how to develop customized exercise programs matched to your clients varied fitness goals. This includes intensity and volume modification along with proper sets, reps, and rest intervals.

- Instruction on proper diets for fitness, performance, and health
- Practice in simulation of nutritional consultation
NPTI Colorado is the exclusive NPTI school location to offer 100 hours of diet, nutrition, and consulting content as required to pass the ACE "Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant" (LWMC) certification ... giving you a SIGNIFICANT advantage over other personal trainers who are not certified in a diet & nutrition related field! Many health clubs actually pay a higher bas salary for ACE's nationally recognized, industry respected LWMC certification.
Business of Personal Training
NPTI Colorado knows that being a personal trainer requires more than just the experience to work with clients, it also requires the knowledge to run a successful business operation. As part of your education and training, you will learn all aspects of running a personal trainer business. Topics include:
• Finding and maintaining clients
• Legal and Administrative Issues
• Interviewing, resume writing, and business cards
• Sales and marketing
• Technology tools (e.g. client database management)
• Industry networking
• Business planning & development
GUEST SPEAKERS – and health / fitness industry experts are invited and will give presentations on how they have developed successful personal training businesses.
Practical Internship (Optional)
Would you like to increase your hands-on experience with actual clients in a fitness facility working with an experienced personal trainer? Our personal trainer school offers optional 30 to 90 day internship opportunities. Internships are available with The University of Denver, Spectrum Rehabilitation, 24-Hour Fitness, Personal Best @ Denver West (owned by NPTI Colorado), and other area athletic clubs.
During your internship, your responsibilities may include:
• Perform fitness assessments, program design, establishing / assessing goals
• Group class instruction (e.g. spinning, kettlebells, body sculpting, etc.)
• Perform diet and nutrition assessments, meal planning, other client nutrition consulting |
